The Urban Design Protocol identifies seven essential design qualities that create quality urban design: the seven Cs. They are: Context, Character, Choice, Connections, Creativity, Custodianship and Collaboration. These are a combination of design processes and outcomes.
All of these elements require a basic parameter, inclusion. As a fresh undergraduate student moving to a whole new country, with new roommates, new boundaries, more conflicts, I have understood that inclusion and acceptance stand steadfast against all such problems.

The same can be applied to the Urban context, be it disability, gender rights and needs, age inclusivity, all of these are but forms of a singular stem of understanding. Here a few ways this can be achieved across the 7 C's of Urban Design :
Universal Design: Adopting universal design principles ensures that urban spaces, buildings, and infrastructure are accessible and usable by people of all abilities. This includes providing barrier-free access with ramps, elevators, wider sidewalks, and tactile cues for visually impaired individuals.
Mixed-Use Development: Encourage mixed-use development that incorporates a blend of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces within neighborhoods. This allows people to live closer to their workplaces, amenities, and services, reducing the need for long commutes.
Public Transportation Accessibility: Ensure that public transportation is accessible to all, including people with disabilities and the elderly. This includes designing accessible bus stops, trains, and subway stations with ramps, elevators, and audio/visual announcements.
Pedestrian-Friendly Infrastructure: Create pedestrian-friendly streets and sidewalks with ample crosswalks, pedestrian signals, and street furniture. These improvements facilitate safe and convenient mobility for all individuals, including those with limited mobility.
Community Engagement: Involve residents from diverse backgrounds in the urban planning process. This ensures that the design reflects the needs and aspirations of the entire community.
Green Spaces and Parks: Provide ample green spaces and parks that are easily accessible to all residents. These areas can act as community gathering spaces and promote physical and mental well-being.
Affordable Housing: Plan for and promote the construction of affordable housing options in various neighborhoods to ensure a diverse mix of residents and prevent displacement of vulnerable populations.
Cultural and Artistic Expression: Incorporate public art, cultural centers, and spaces for artistic expression within the urban landscape. This helps celebrate the diversity of the community and fosters a sense of belonging.
Age-Friendly Design: Consider the needs of older adults in urban planning. This involves designing for easy navigation, seating areas, age-friendly transportation, and accessible public spaces.
Gender-Inclusive Design: Ensure public spaces and amenities are designed with consideration for the safety and comfort of all genders, such as well-lit pathways and gender-neutral bathrooms.
Community Safety: Prioritize community safety by implementing measures like proper lighting, security cameras, and creating well-defined public spaces, which can help reduce the fear of crime and enhance the feeling of security for all residents.
Public Health and Well-being: Promote physical activity and well-being by designing walkable neighborhoods, cycling lanes, and recreational facilities accessible to all.
Language Inclusivity: Incorporate multilingual signage and information to accommodate residents who speak languages other than the dominant one in the area.
By incorporating these methods into urban planning and design, cities can become more inclusive, fostering a sense of belonging and equitable access to opportunities for all residents.
It is always important to keep an open mind, draw respectable boundaries and maintain civic sense to establish a dynamic society that caters to all facets of the population. Here is to hoping I can conquer this both personally and professionally!
